Wilson Group Behaviour Genetics Evolution

I am an evolutionary biologist working at the Centre for Ecology and Conservation. Work in my group tries to understand how phenotypes evolve under natural selection, and why in some cases seem not to. We use ecological, genetic, and statistical approaches to study the interaction of genes and environmental processes that shape diversity in animal populations.

THE CAIN LAB - CAIN LAB

Welcome to the Cain Lab! Here in the Cain Lab we are trying to understand how and why animals are so varied in their behaviour and appearance, with a particular emphasis on sex differences and females that are colourful, aggressive or sing complex songs. We use an integrative approach, incorporating tools from the behaviour, physiology, evolutionary ecology, and quantitative genetics. Most of our work focuses on birds. And what we do on the Research page.

We are evolutionary ecologists working on inferring processes from patterns. One of our main research themes uses extensive datasets on the spring phenology of plants and animals to try to identify the cues and mechanisms responsible for the spatial and temporal phenological variation. We also use a combination of phylogenetic, phenotypic and distribution data to examine the influence of ecology on diversification, trait evolution and community assembly.
